I will be ordering an 2.0T Avant later this month and I'm wondering if the Tech Package is really worth it. I do have Xenons (low beams only) on my '02 1.8T QMS sedan and I like them but with the recent $600 price increase in MSRP, I'm starting to suffer from some sticker shock here.

You get:

Bi-Xenon Headlights - I think is great
Adaptive Front Lighting - do not use much
Memory for Drive side - Great
Color Trip Computer - Great
Bluetooth - have not used yet, but plain to

You just have to decide if enough of the options are worth it.

The adaptive front lighting is nice (but not a necessity) when in you're in the middle of nowhere where it's pitch black. No use for driver side memory as I'm the only driver, the colour trip computer is nice.

I'm a big fan of the Bluetooth and the Xenons are great. If your keeping the car for a while, and you value hands free and decent headlights, get it.

I will not have another car without HID's. When I drive other cars now it is like the lights are off. And the adaptive lights are nice and look awesome. if you look where you want to drive, and dont look where you have already been, they are nice. They shine around the corner and light it up; plus it is probaly obvious to other drivers which way you are going since your lights are pointing that way.

Also, I love the dimming mirrors (is that the tech or premium package?). Thought they were useless but now when I drive my other car I am always blinded by light from the cars behind me.

Get the Tech package! you will love it and the car will have better resell.

They are things that are not appreciated untill you drive a different car.

I could almost do without the Premium package, although I really like having heated front seats, but AoA won't sell the car with Tech and no Premium, so that's not an option either.

I guess "I don't care for it much" or "my driving doesn't show it much" (such as on freeways) would have been better.

I've only had my 2.0T for three days now, but I really like the technology package.

The adaptive lighting keeps the brightest part of the light pointed at the section of road you are about to drive over rather than the bushes off the shoulder. The effect is subtle if you aren't looking for it except at the very end of a turn when there is a little lag before the lights return to center. I haven't driven any seriously twisty roads at night yet, but even just around the block this feels like it improves the visibility of the road considerably.

If you have a bluetooth phone, the bluetooth integration is also great. I have already used this quite a bit and it is much easier than fiddling with a phone, a headset, and the radio.

The driver's seat and mirror memory is nice, but I don't think I'll be letting anyone else drive for a while :)

Absolute best toy in the world! Wouldn't leave home without it. I've had so much fun playing with it in my new A4. Well worth the price, especially if you think you will be driving the same car for over five years.
If you're worried about cost, just finance or lease your car and it won't hurt so much in the beginning.
