When will I be able to get satellite radio for my '06 A4 in Canada? I am assuming it will be XM and not Sirius, but does anyone know if there is a choice on the matter??

The French Canadian rule of not allowing US content in to Canada may prevent selling subscriptions to Canadians. Same rules as Sat TV

There are regulations up here that stipulates a certain percentage of content played be from Canadian artists.

I hate French influence

it's purely the CRTC making sure there is enough canadian content in the broadcast. Both TV and Radio.

The only french influence is towards having a minimal french content if you wanna have a french TV or radio station (labelled as).

I have researched into satelite radio broadcast via sirius and XM for my Mazda 3 and found that it is coming but no yet here. (Though it might have changed in the last few weeks)

both Sirius and XM will be out in Canada by christmas (planned at least). This was allowed by the CRTC in September. The delay had both to do with Canadian and French content as well as intense lobbying from Canadian land-based radio companies which overturned the initial decision (but the CRTC ruled in favour of sat radio a second time nonetheless). Also as far as I know, all B7s shipped to Canada after July are pre-wired for sat radio and will only require some sort of hardware/software upgrade once it becomes available (don't know the details - this is what the dealer assured me)

Don't blame the french or the rest of Canada, it's the CRTC.

Edge 102 (radio station in Toronto) on Sunday had a good rant about this a few weeks ago. SOmething like the amount of Canadian artists have declined over the years, and that the content required to be on the radio has slowly increased over the last few decades, so we have to put up with more of the same Candian artists and their songs being played on the radio. At least the station I listen to doesn't play Celine Dion!

XM have 80 channels, Sirius will have 100 at launch

Audi is working on the release of a module that is needed for the satellite systems to work. Once that is released, all 06s are pre-wired for it to plug and play. That is the only thing that we are waiting on, so Ive been told. The dealers have been telling me for about a month now that it will be a few weeks.

I really hope it arrives before christmas, as I am going on a long road trip and that would be awsome to have!

Audi needs to get their act together with the iPod integration as well....but that's another issue so I will start a new thread.

I agree about the iPod issue - and Audi is late with the new high def audio on regular broadcast stations too.

On the other hand - they were way ahead of others like BMW and MB to allow a choice of Sirius or XM.
