I drove the 2.0t today and it is fantastic. With new software it should be a rocket. I am trying to justify the S4 or even the 3.2 for that matter over a tuned 2.0t

View Full Version : Is the B7 S4 really worth the added $$$ over the 2.0t. RikiTik 04-16-2005, 07:13 PM I drove the 2.0t today and it is fantastic. With new software it should be a rocket. I am trying to justify the S4 or even the 3.2 for that matter over a tuned 2.0t Dano_SL 04-16-2005, 09:41 PM RikiTik 04-17-2005, 07:10 AM Avantéix 04-17-2005, 09:11 AM i know you might think that's not really a strong argument, but trust me... the stock seats aren't that comfy... if you do long drives then you'll know what i'm talking about... but yeah 30k is a lot... don't forget luxury tax will also kick in on the S4... CanyonBlaster 04-17-2005, 09:36 AM The lease on our B6 (wife drive's it now), is almost up and I'm considering a new B7 (Avant of course). I went and drove both the S4 and 2.0 FSI (both manual). I do think this is a very good question. The S4 is very strong and would be the better open road/ highway car by far. It has tons of pull. However, the 2.0 actually feels more fun/sporty around town. It is 300 lbs lighter, and the 2.0 just feels more kind of tossable and quick to drive. Due to the HUGE premium in price, and GAS mileage! I am strongly considering the 2.0 FSI, sport package 6 sp manual, and then chipping it right away. The MTM site shows 250 HP/ 260 ft. lbs with a chip. Might be money well saved! leaves $$ for GAS, and also for sweet mods like wheels and maybe a body kit. Go drive both, even if you can afford the S4, the 2.0 FSI is a valid consideration. RikiTik 04-17-2005, 12:07 PM The other option is the 3.2. The 6speed will be here in the fall. Avantéix 04-17-2005, 12:13 PM i'm not sure the S-line or the Recaro seats would be available through such program... it would be costly for sure, but not anywhere near $30k... cost of my s-line seats was $4k imported from Germany (via eBay.de)... Zero problems, just tons more power. MTM claims 195 HP/ 230 lb ft. All I know is the car is pretty strong. Night and day! The 2.0 FSI will rock with a chip. Both McD's and Prestige have done all kinds of warranty work on my car. NO issues with them at all. Chips only void warranty on issues that the ECU or related might happen. MTM chips are non-issue. The MTM guys are basically ex-Audi engineers and office right down the road from Ingosladt (spelling?) Audi factory. The simple fact is that VW AG "under-tunes" these cars on purpose to create more "market" space between the V6 (now the 3.2). I guess chips aren't for everyone though. I wouldve taken that in a heartbeat if USP came out in 02 when i got mine RikiTik 04-17-2005, 06:03 PM MB The Body 04-17-2005, 06:06 PM RikiTik 04-17-2005, 06:24 PM CanyonBlaster 04-17-2005, 06:55 PM Flath12 04-18-2005, 05:15 PM Chips definatly don't void the warrenty? Cuz if not, im gettin one right away Reggie 04-18-2005, 05:32 PM Perhaps he is lucky or connected. Just ask any dealer if you want to know the truth. MylesPH1 04-19-2005, 11:39 AM There have been some horror stories about dealers attempting to void the entire warranty for a chip, but that's illegal, and won't hold up in court. Ever. Even Audi of America tends to side with the owner in those cases. But if your turbo fails, or your clutch dies unexpectedly, and you're running a chip and whatever other power adding mods, then it's hard to blame Audi when you're running more boost than programmed by the factory, and it's the risk you take. With a chip and exhaust, you rarely saw any failures with the 1.8T - it almost always involved big turbos and injectors, cars with 300 HP that owners were drag racing regularly. But like others have said, with gas prices going nuts, running a chip and exhaust on a 2.0t might be a risk worth taking, if I'm getting 34 mpg on the highway instead of 21 with the S4. |
