If I put in an order for a B7 in May, when should I expect to receive it??

But that all depends on the allocation.
Which A4 model are you looking for?

I'm thinkin the Dolphin Grey 2.0T, Quattro
Black Leather Interior, with the aluminum strip
Premium Package w/ Sunroof
Lighting Package (Maybe)
17" Rims (Maybe)

What ya think?? With and w/o the maybes, what ya think I'm looking at price wise..your $37K range?? Lease price?? And do you think they'll have it so it doesn't need to be ordered. Or maybe even a case where they can get it from another dealer.. Thoughts..
Thanks for the help...I'm new to this new car stuff, new college grad and I am anxiously waitin for the right car to bring me out of my '84 Ford Pickup (I love it, but it's ime for a change). It'll be a definite "come-up".

The local San Francisco dealership told me they are taking orders now (at least for the 2.0) at MSRP, whatever that happens to be. Frankly, I'll go to L.A. to pick the car up (as I have family there I can visit and mileage to get there free) but are all/most dealers going to stick to MSRP initially? IOW, if we're talking a few hundred $, haggling and waiting's not worth it, but for $1,000 or more, yeah it probably is.

Shortest time 14 weeks (for an A6 4.2)

Longest time 14 months (for the 2000 TT)

"Oddest experience" 6 months for the first A8 to come to the US -- I was actually loaned (for a weekend) a full-on Euro spec A8 in May 1996. It was love at first drive; ordered the car in May, it finally arrived in November. During the six month's wait, however, I received multiple "teaser" communications from Audi, including a video tape of "my" new A8 being built (of course it was NOT MY SPECIFIC A8, but it was pretty cool anyway), a solid silver Audi A8 keychain (later I found out was $250.00) and a pre-paid credit card from my favorite store "Needless Markup" er, Neiman Marcus. Later after the car arrived I received another key chain and a silver A8 stick pin and so many "are you happy" surveys from Audi I thought I had lost my privacy (but it WAS flattering).

I normally figure about 3 to 4 months is a "typical" order time -- be careful about the changeover in Germany. There is a point in time, usually in June where the line is shut down for the current year and the next year models are made the following week or two, depending, I presume upon the retooling required to stop making a 2004 and start making a 2005, for instance.

Ordering is THE BEST WAY to acquire one of these cars -- I swear, it is like getting the "new car" thrill twice; once when you order and once again when you pick it up.

New car foreplay -- bask in the afterglow not once, but twice (upside down dog floats gently back to earth with a satisfied grin on his face -- aaaaaahhhhhhhh.)

I sent out a "mass" e-mail to S.F. Bay Area and L.A. dealers stating that I am considering ordering a b7 2.0T CVT w/o a test drive and asking for ordering info. One dealership sent me a standard reply stating that they have over 400 vehicles in stock, they can find one for my needs, and come in for a test drive -- even though I said I want only the b7 and I live in San Francisco (but can pick the car up in L.A.) Oy.

not making fun of you, it's just that so many people underestimate dealer customer service and dealers' primary interests. dealers just want to sell. that is all. almost never will they take special requests seriously or respect the consumer's knowledge. it's just that the vast majority of consumers really are clueless about everything; negotiating, pricing, features, etc... and so dealers lump us in with everyone else.

your best shot is to walk in and talk to someone face to face and stand up to them if they tell you you are wrong about info. you got on AW (for instance). i got lucky b/c my family has bought 3 cars from one dealer AND that dealer is nice to begin with. for this reason i was able to swing a nice deal over the telephone for my fiancee's B7 3.2.

your best bet is to go in person knowing what you want, how much you want to pay, and ignoring the sublime contempt and stupidity which is rampant in too many dealerships when the consumer is knowledgeable about what they want.
