View Full Version : Had my car in for a 40,000 mile "minor service" and a few other items

had the minor service done for like $150...synthetic, etc...

A few items I had them address:

Trunk latch (not working)
Ashtray lid (sticking/not closing)
Front right headlight (flicker/going out occ.)

Trunk latch fixed, ashtray lid fixed....

I'd been having problems recently with the front right headlight flickering randomly and even going out occasionally. Doing some research I was nervous as I know the bulb can be expensive if replaced. They checked all the wiring and all the relays and everything checked out. Turns out there was a TSB on the headlights. They replaced the bulb for free. All covered under waranty (the bulb would not have been covered under the waranty had there not been a TSB), or at least according to my service advisor.

So, in my situation a few things. Great experience as usuall with Diablo Audi. They gave me a fun little A3 (which has torque steer like crazy when you get on it), and all my waranty items were not voided because my aftermarket setup. Got the car back in less than a day at the dealer (dropped it off at 10, picked it up at 4).

I know there is a TSB database...anyone care to provide a link?

Plenty of flickering, only on the right side, now happens with increasing regularity. And then sometimes it goes out completely, mostly when cold. When that happens, I get the error on the dash. Turning lights off, waiting a few seconds and then putting them on again seems to do the trick. Not fun to do on the highway though!

If anyone finds the TSB, let me know. I am in a 2006 S4 Avant.

with my 2005.5 almost the same as what you typed except it never goes out completely and I don't get an error on the dash. I want to take this in and get it fixed, but I'm afraid without any dash lights there won't be any fault codes and they'll give me some reason why warranty won't cover it. I have a VAG-COM cable but I haven't checked it yet, I've just been waiting for it to get worse.

The right headlight also flashes on briefly sometimes when the car is off, I've seen it flash on while I'm washing it, the key is out of the ignition.

When I did my 25k service they gave me synthetic and changed my brakes at no cost. It was at Audi of Oakland.

to correct that situation, indicating that it wasn't a failure. They would've replace it if one side (or both) were completely out. I said that scenario would've been a "complete failure" however my situation is still considered a failure since my right headlights are dimmer compared to the left and sometimes die out (when the engine hasn't been completely warmed up yet).

Do you guys think they will honor this TSB even though I've surpassed the 50k mile mark??? I notified them of this exact problem @ ~45k miles (was also documented in the service papers).

Take it in and ask for them to check it out, tell them you know about the TSB.

Brakes are not included in scheduled maintenance for 06's past 12/12.

they said my front brakes were at 37% pad remaining. They failed to mention that the pads and rotors were aftermarket, and for that matter, how did they know the overall thickness of the pads to begin with?

The 06s were scheduled at 5, 15, 25, 35 and 45,000 miles, those would be the free services included in the Warranty. 06 also marked the year that the Break pads were only covered for 24 months or 25,000 miles which ever came first.

The service manual included in the owners packet, details all of the components of the interval services...

I couldn't find any documentation on the brake pads being covered. I'm reading my Warranty pamphlet and it specifically says 12 months/12,000 miles for "wear items". It lists brake pads, discs, clutch, wiper blades, etc, etc.

...that they needed a video of it in order to honor the TSB!!! The next dealer updated the software and told me if the problem persisted that they would replace the bulb. Guess what, the problem persists!

So, those of you that have gotten this repaired, did the dealer simply replace the failing bulb or did they replace both bulbs?

and checked the wiring, fuses, housing, and aiming systems. Diablo Audi FWIW.

How did you get your brakes free of charge, is your car a 2005 or older? On 2006 or newer audis brake pads are not covered under warranty.

So both are flickering and going out intermittently. Scheduled an appointment.

They found a TSB on the bulbs but say if they can't recreate the problem they're not supposed to cover it under warranty. They're still working on it, they may keep it overnight and try it when it's cold outside.

I've put up with this problem for at least 3 months because I knew this would happen and I wanted to wait until there was a fault and it was easy to recreate.

So far this is the only link I could find that seems similar, but there's no details:

http://www.audiforums.com/recalls-and-tsbs/make_AUDI/model_S4/year_2006/id_20056243/TSB.htm</a
