I just got my remotes reprogrammed today per the FAQ and wanted to share something that I think is very cool. I discovered that the auto locking/unlocking feature is somewhat "intelligent." We all know that when the car reaches 15 MPH or so that the system locks all the doors then unlocks when the key is removed. What is cool is that it knows whether or not it should unlock just the driver's door or all the doors when the key is removed from the ignition. If you reach 15 MPH and only the drivers door was unlocked (no passengers) then it only unlocks the drivers door when you remove the key. If you happened to unlock all the doors prior to driving away in order to allow passengers on board it will unlock all the doors once again when the key is removed. Pretty nifty if you ask me.
Sean
97 1.8Tqm

Would you know if the remote can be programmed for auto locking but NOT auto unlocking?
I get annoyed when I have to remember to lock all the doors, especially by my passenger. However, I don't want the doors to be unlocked unless I deliberately pull the interior door handle.
What did the dealer charge you for it?? I would be very interested in having this done. Does it nullify anything in the warranty?? Why the hell wouldn't Audi just make some of these features standard esp the locking doors after speeding to 15 mph. I would love to have that feature.
Thanks

I had it done during my scheduled service and my dealer did not charge me. It depends on the dealer. I've heard some people have paid up to a full hour of labor for what takes only a minute or so. They have to hook up the VAG during the service anyway.
Sean
97 1.8Tqm

Control Module Recoding FAQ

I don't know. I would doubt it since it seems it would be a package deal with that feature. Maybe John Stahmann might have some ideas?
Sean
97 1.8Tqm

Recoding FAQ

Question: I am a proud new owner of a '96 2.8qm. I bought it used and had it inspected yesterday. When I got to the gas station, after inspection, to fill up, I locked the doors (with remote) to pre-pay and unlocked the doors (with remote) to access the gas tank after pre-paying. However, I noticed that after I unlocked the doors and the interior light went out the doors relocked themselves. I can only assume this happened because I had not opened the doors after unlocking them. Is this correct?
Thanks for any suggestions/help!
Frank
PS - I hope this makes sense...I tried to keep it short.

Yes, you're exactly right.
If you unlock with the remote and don't open a door in the given time interval, the system relocks (to avoid false signals leaving your car unprotected).
