This summer has not been a very safe one for me. In June I was knocked off my motorcycle when a car hit me while changing lanes. The driver wasn't paying attention and didn't see me at all. Bike was totalled, (broken frame, not fixable) and I couldn't find a similar bike anywhere. Every black '06 Suzuki GSX-R 1000 had already been sold so I took the money and decided to wait until next summer. In fact I got a very generous compensation so if there ever is a lucky accident, this was one.
So, today I was driving home from gym when an old man (in his 70's or 80's I think) does exactly the same thing! His lane ended but he didn't brake and wait for me to pass him. He just switched lanes without even watching sideways. I was barely able to brake and avoid hitting him but the guy behind me couldn't stop as quickly so he hit me.
The old man didn't even see what happened. We didn't catch his licence plate number so he got away. The guy behind me has to pay for the damage now and he was mad as hell. He said this was the second accident at the same place for him.
Oh well, these things happen. I'm not upset about the damage to the S4 but I'm upset about how old people are allowed to drive when they are clearly not anymore physically or mentally up to it. This old guy didn't see me, didn't hear my horn, didn't see me blinking my lights behind him, he just continued driving like nothing happened. I hope he doesn't kill anyone in the future. I also feel sorry for the guy behind me.
Time to visit my Audi dealer on Monday, I guess.
