i cant seem to get bellow a 14.0! I can launch this thing like nothing on the street but the grippy strip surface makes it very difficult. no matter what i do the s4 likes to bog. I know the car is capable of much more but i am losing massive time at the start. any tips? I am doing this in less then ideal conditions, it seems every time we take a ride out to atco its like 115 degrees.

115 degrees sure isn't helping your times.

i ran it at the california speedway in 105-110 weather, with a poor launch if i remember correctly. you have to keep it in perspective, we drive luxury cars that are quick. I dont think anyones gonna say that these are "fast" cars.

Relatively speaking, sure our S4s are pretty quick but there are a lot of quicker cars. When you say "fast" I think of top end speed, not 1/4 mile or 0-60mph, etc.

The best time i got so far is a 13.8. The temperature that night was around 86-95 but felt more like 100 with humidity. Last night was the same deal..I wanted to see what i would get and the best was a 13.9/ The temperature was feeling hotter probably more muggy than anything and my car read 82 at 8.30 p.m.

The best launch for our cars 101.

A. Stay away from the water in the front where everyone does a burn out. MOst of us are on street tires. I think 18" wheels would be the best to bring with you my 19" feels that they slow me down.

B. You have to practice before you go. Launching our cars are very much harder than a rear or front drive car. Slipping the clutch enough and keeping the revs up so you keep forward motion. THe bog you feel is that you probably just dropped your clutch with revved motor. Doing it that way will jump you car forward and then almost die for a second and then open throttle again.
So try this. Rev your motor up to about 4k and try and keep it there. Then get your clutch right near the friction point. When the tree goes down smothly release the clutch and focus on feeding throttle instead of slaming it down to the ground. The one to second gear shift is almost as important. You need to keep it smooth, fast and all in motion. Too hard and you get nasty driveline shock and like a girl and you get a slow ET...After that its all HP and your next quick shift 3-4. Make sure you push your car at least 100 feet past the finish line. Alot of people let up before they should.

Honestly practice will only get you better. You can even practice your shifts without the car on so you get good muscle memory with your clutch and shifting. When its on, get used to the sound of the car at the rev you want to hold it at. That way you can keep your eyes on the tree instead of your tach...

Everyone can get better times on their cars and like myself i will get better with time.

we didnt get better then a 14.0 on our s4 either but at the poccono road coarse we were pulling on all the modded evos and stis top end. I think this car has more potential after 100 mph rather then to the quarter of mile.
