I've been through the archives pretty exhaustively and didn't find any message that quite matched. So, here you go.
My 2.8 Tip seems to "slip the clutch" when shifting 1-2 and 2-3. The engine revs drop when the transmission shifts, then, instead of picking up again, they stay steady for a while, although it feels like there's some acceleration going on. It reminds me of clutch slip. After a second or two it hooks up and off we go.
Does this sound familiar? Is it Audi's programmers' way of creating smooth shifts?
td

I have noticed the same thing and was planning to ask the dealer during first service scheduled for mid-December.
Gene
98.5 2.8 FrontTrak

My car has the same problem. When I took my car for 7500mile service. I asked the dealer to also take a look at the transmission problem. The technician took me an a test ride and during that time he acknowledged that yes it looks like it is a problem. He said if his tests doesn't show anything he will contact the Michigan office and get info from engineers there. Today he called back and said the engineers there have said this is normal and nothing to worry about. I guess we have to live with this. Now I feel bad since it looks during testing they had reset the ECU so now the car doesn't feel the same as before. I liked the way it shifted before. Oh well, I give up and no point in trying further since the more I take it the to dealer the worse it is getting.
