I had my Audi dealer install the new antenna (as per service bulletin) for the keyless entry on Friday. Mine was the first that my dealer installed. Actually, the service manager was surprised when I brought a printout form this forum. <p>NOW it works like a remote should. ;-)<p>Also had the dealer code the FOB to open the windows (used the code from the FAQ). NICE! Definitely worth the 1 hour of labor.<br>

What is the range after you fixed it?<br>Mine is not working when operating more than 10 feet, but the dealer does not fix it because the Audi bulletin is talking about five feet or less, so according to him my range is just fine! <br>Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

I've followed this thread for awhile, and was just wondering what the big deal is about long remote range. To me so long as it locks or unlocks at a close enuf range where I don't have to stand at the door waiting for it to function, I don't care when it actuates (98.5 Avant). OK, folks, educate me!<p>Reprogramming to get rid of the 2-push mode to unlock all doors I can see. My experience is that this is hit-&-miss; sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Almost seems like have to unlock driver's door, wait a second or more, then hit remote again firmly for other doors. Go too fast and the second signal doesn't get entered.

During the summer I was over a friends apartment in Manhattan. While looking out the window of his 3rd floor apt, I noticed some people sitting and leaning all over his car. I told him about it, he got his remote, pointed it out the window and pushed the panic button. The alarm scared the people that were leaning on his car and they left. Yesterday while I was over his apartment, they were leaning all over my car. I pointed my remote out of the window and pushed the panic button. Nothing happened, no alarm, nothing. I had to walk down the stairs, and then by my car. I tried to push the panic button while the remote was in my pocket, nothing happened. I could have taken the remote out of my pocket and pushed it, but by then I was only 5 feet away from my vehicle. I ended up asking them if they could get off of my car, They did after some bad stares. It would have been much easier and safer to push the panic button from his apt. But due to the crappy range of my remote I was unable to do so. Is that reason enough for you?<p> <br>

The Panic button is worthless without a good long range...I told this to my dealer and he agreed..so don't buy into that mumbo jumbo when the dealer says that the crappy range is Audi spec.

I thought this was the case. If you have to put the key in the door to stop the alarm, then this argument doesn't make any sense. I guess I will perform a simple test and see for myself whether the remote can stop the alarm.<br>

I was driving a Mazda and Toyotas during the past 15 years and they all had alarms which could be activated when I was just pushing the button on the remote from inside the house with windows and doors closed - I did not have to point towards the car - as well as from a long distance outside the house, more than 20 times Audi remote range! I cannot believe that we pay all this money to buy a car with simply a non-reasonable remote range and people are still talking about the difference it makes if you can activate it from 5 feet or 50.

Before the Fix, my range was around 5 feet to 1 foot depending on which angle I was approaching the car. <p>Now it works at 25 feet(thats as far as I have tried)maybe more. <br>

How can I find a copy of the service bulletin, PLEASE!! This has been such an annoying problem, I'd love to see Audi address this issue. I'd also love to see my dealer do something about this, other than tell me that this is normal behavior.<p>Thanks.

Here's another possible data point about the alarms. When I took delivery of my A4, I got two remote FOBs. I've had good range so I haven't made issue with the dealer over the antenna fix - until the other day, my remote batteries died so I grabbed the second one and found that it only worked from about 5 feet away from the car. I changed to fresh batteries and tried it again - same thing! New batteries in the "first" fob and I'm back to 30+ feet of range. Now I wonder, is it the antenna or the fobs themselves that are the problem. I'm going in for the 7500 mile service next week, and will get the dealer to check the antenna and/or replace the fob.

Go to the Archive Forum and do a search for;<p>"Scan of TSB for Remote Range Fix" <p>This is the actual scanned sheet from Audi to one of its dealers.<p>Good Luck to all.<p>Paul<br>

I'd tell your dealer that this is definitely a significant inconvenience, and you didn't pay ~$30000 to have to walk up to the car to unlock it remotely. You definitely deserve better service, IMHO!
