Well, the weather is warming up and my cats are really starting to shed. I've noticed a thick layer of dust/fur on a lot of things in my living room (where they hang out the most). I've never paid much mind to it except recently my laptop started overheating--turns out there was a fur ball the size of a quarter blocking the air intake/heat sink.

Now I'm worried, I always vacuum/dust every other week, but I've never thought about things that falls through the vents. My gear rack is very open with an specially large space for my Onkyo TX-SR805 since it gets so hot. What's the best way to clean the insides without damaging anything?

Can I just point my vacuum hose against the vents?

grills and it comes out great. Then you can finish up with some anti-dust **** that I bought at Home depot for fans and it works great on electronics. Or you can use the swifer stuff on electronics as well. Happy cleaning.

for anything with a fan, it's going to suck hair and dust down into the component, and I'd probably open the case once every 1-2 years depending on it's propensity to generate heat, and blow some compressed air over the boards to get the crap out of there.
