I leave the sub on at all times. I thought it was the receiver sending out a signal. I unplugged it completely and it was still there. Turned down the gain on the back of the sub and it went away. Problem is, it was almost at zero on the gain. And I did my speaker setup thru my Elite so the gain wasn't too hi.

What can be causing this? I turn off the power of the sub at the switch and it stops. Turn it on...it comes back. But I can faintly here it if all my HT is off and I'm doing something. Thx

Try a two prong adapter where your sub plugs in for it's power feed.

power strip. The only other things plugged into it are a charger for my Wii-motes.

3 prong going into the wall. ALL my other electronics are on a shelf above my TV and run thru an APC Power Conditioner/Surge Suppressor. The ONLY thing that doesn't is the sub in the corner.

We've been testing these at work for humming subs, and it's worked perfectly every time.

sure it didn't have some loop being sent thru the cable. Supposedly there is an LFE issue with some of the Elites. But it still hummed with EVERYTHING in my system shut off and disconnected and ONLY the sub plugged in to power.

When I turned the gain down on the sub it went away. But I don't think having the gain up only a 1/4 of a turn would cause this. Weird.

So I don't think that is it. I'm sure it's the ground like everyone is saying.

But I unplugged the surge strip and plugged the two-prong directly from the sub into the wall and still does it. Turned the gain down and it's gone. Guess I'll have to spring for one that fdvm mentioned below.

but if you conent the rca it will ground through the rca on the audio side of things, not sure if you tried that.

dont rule out two bad rca's for the sub either, give a 3rd one a try.

and theres no reason for an expensive ground cheater. get a regular one(the kind used for old 2 prong outlets where it converts form 3 prong, and dont connect the ground wire to the gang.

of course when you turn the gain down it will go away your pretty much turning down the volume.

The plug for the amp is a 2 prong, so I don't even need a 3 prong to a 2 prong adapter. I also tried both the RCA inputs on the sub. My Elite (92) only has one sub out. But with or without an RCA plugged in it still hums. So it's not grounding thru the RCA. Only time it stops is either A. when I turn the gain down or B. I shut the sub completely off.

I SURE hope that the sub isn't busted. It's under warranty, but that thing would cost a couple hundred just to ship. It's HUGE and heavy. But at least SVS has great customer service.

it really sounds like the amp is shot in the sub.

DOnt go in the outlet and disconnect the ground, the amp in that sub is obviously floating the ground.

call up svs at this point sounds like soemthing is amiss internally

perhaps maybe just a bad rca input on the sub??
