i absolutely do not believe that DBS packs do anything at all.
the battery in those isn't actually part of a circuit unless you count the battery test lamp. only the positive end of it is attached to a drain wire inside the cable. so, as we know, a battery without a circuit does jack.
it does look neat, though. it also makes the cable about 4x more expensive.
