View Full Version : Listened to a Monitor Audio Radius setup today.... wow, best small speakers I've ever heard.

I am speechless. They sound huge and sound imaging and surround effects are perfection to my ears. Seems like an appropriate setup for a condo.

They had four R90's and one R180 as a center channel, didn't check what subwoofer was running because I was so floored by the speakers.

I'm so regretting going to the store and checking them out because I was very happy with my Aperions until now. Good thing the Radius isn't too expensive....

Only one main listening area where all 7 channels are ideally placed and optimized with audyssey. Perhaps if I had a 5.1 system then dipole would help for the surrounds.

is they are one of the very few speakers which
a. sound like a much bigger speaker than they actually are (with or without a subwoofer),
b. Sound great with movies and music
c. Are easily mounted
d. Come in many finishes
e. are efficient enough to be driven nicely by just about any decent-sounding receiver (NAD and Marantz in particular, although they still sound really good with the likes of Denon, Yamaha, Onkyo and Pioneer) without it sounding strained
f. are really solidly built
g. have a non-fatiguing sound.
h. are not particularly cable fussy (they work well enough with regular 16g wire) unless you are using a non-ES Sony receiver or the like (I like Sony products in general - own a few myself - but their regular line of receivers are pretty uninspiring).

And generally best avoided if music is a big part of the operation.

not that much of a compromise, if at all.

They truly sound larger than their specs... and can't beat the small form factor for the space-challenged among us.

The Radius left such an impression on me all day that I just had to go back there after work just to see if they had all the pieces I needed in stock. Sure enough they did.

Walked out with six R90s and one R180 to replace my current 7.1 setup and also picked up the slick stands designed to go with them.... for one hell of a bargain!

RS1's have greater presence and a fuller sound (not surprising). The radius series is nice for those looking at Bose and other space conscious systems, but if you have the room to accomodate something larger, the RS1's are pretty nice if you feed them well.
