I know it's all about personal taste and I'm loathed to post here asking for suggestions but here it is any way.
I'm upgrading my aging system, initially with speakers then a turntable. The pieces I'm keeping are my Cambridge CD4, DACMAGIC2 and Arcam Alpha 7 Amp.
I'm looking for speakers that will stand an upgrade to more modern gear when I get round to it with an inital price of around $500. With my local store's 1 yr full credit trade up on speakers, these may well be upgraded as well.
The turntable will be another discussion altogether, I'm sure.
As always, any suggestions or alternatives are welcome.

Particularly as your source is a Cambridge CD player/DAC. Lots of musicality will compliment the analytical and dynamic B&W sound.
Your ears will be your best source of recommendation of course.
I'd suggest some decent multi-stranded speaker cable to put the cherry on the cake, something like Tara Labs or Tributaries.
Does your CD player have anything to keep vibrations at bay? Even squash ball halves under each foot will make a difference.

reminds me of the hours of listening at Audio dealers while I lived in London.
Rubberduckie is right (he's always right, he also makes his own silver interconnects but won't sell to the rest of us peasants on this board) about multi- stranded speaker cable.
I also suggest Kimber Kable 8TC but that's just me (-:
PS: Rega makes some killer cd palyers too

Ordinarily, I'd gladly make interconnects for folks here who want them, but I now have a baby to take care of and I'm left with very little time for such projects these days.

Kimber is good too. And Rega CD players are super-smooth. They play music without making your teeth hurt like so many other CD and DVD players.

Any particular spot I should use :-)
I'd really like to have the big floor standing models but just don't have the size of room or cash at the moment to buy them. My idea is to take advantage of my local store's one year full credit buy back on speaker upgrades and just keep moving up the chain until I get to a point that I'm happy with them both financially and sonically.
It means I can get new speakers now and when I've got a few 'spare' hundred bucks I can put that down for the upgrades and just keep building it from there.
Upgrades to the Amp CD will come but maybe not for a while. I know they're aging but I like the sound and don't want to spend more than I have to for obvious reasons.

I thought Monoprice was the way to go on everything ;-)
I suppose I'll have to go and audition some but I'm not sure where I would do that. I will be buying new speaker cables and interconnects but haven't really put a price limit on those yet. Should I be looking to spend a percentage of my overall system on cables and interconnects or perhaps just going for a particular brand and working my way up those as well as time and money dictate ?
If I'm going to bi-wire these speakers I'll need four pairs of speaker cable, for example and a new DAC interconnect pair.
I've never been one for buying the best although I do like the good stuff and am happy to shop around to get a bargain. I love bargains, me !

you specifically say multi-strand cable, is there a quality you find in multi-strand in relation to the 600 series B&W that you prefer over solid core?

I find a lot of solid core cable doesn't really compliment the Bowers Tweeters, which are brutally revealing. Solid core cables can sound great with lots of speakers, but not usually with B&W. Quality multi-stranded copper cable generally works better giving a smoother top end and more focus overall. So long as the strands of wire aren't all over the place in thickness like with certain Monster wires for example.
