I'm looking for reasonable speakers that would pair well with a pioneer 94thx. I know its a little ass backwards to work off the reciever but the pioneer seems to be the one that works for me. Im not a huge music guy, but would really love to have a great cinema sound. the room will be a dedicated home theater...roughly 17x15. Any Ideas on what to look for that wouldnt be overkill(although im not opposed ;P)?

if so, bring it over and we'll hook it up to my NHTs...I wanna hear it :P
Polk is a good value. B&W (805 bookshelves maybe) is a little more usually.
Got a sub already?
I'd recommend NHT of course, but the company's in flux at the moment, so who knows.
State Street on Rt 1 sells NHT and Definitive, fwiw.

always forget its there and its closer to home than the mall area shops :) I just hooked up the 94 on an old DCM setup to play with to check it out...not to saavy with these things so its gonna take me a bit to work out ;P
So by the time my home is built I should be able to understand the remote!

or limitations - because speakers are the most revealing part of a system and vary enormously between one pair and another in many cases. What's good for the goose..
The suggestions provided here are likely to yield results which probably won't disappoint, but it's best to go to a store with a resonable selection and try them out for character if you can.
For your VSX94 I'd suggest listening to KEF (if you like lots of detail), Klipsch (if you like the sound to be in your face) or B&W (if you like a nice dry and sophisticated sound).
But there's so many good speaker brands out there. I can only offer what I've heard sounding useful with a VSX94.

paradigm monitor series:
monitor 7's for front L/R
CC-190 for the center
ADP-190 for the surrounds
DSP-3200 (which i think are great) sub
we have installed this setup countless times, and though it's not the greatest for 2ch reference listening, it really excels at home theater.
you said state street, so if you want to come to maine, you can hear the whole setup in our paradigm room. i'm an installer, so i won't be there, but my A4 will be in the lot.
