I know you're Pio dealer, so I figured it's worth asking you for your opinion...

He was going to spend $400 to $500. I may offer him my VSX-82TSX, a few extra hdmi cables that he'll need to purchase anyhow, and some time setting up his new room. He's a total n00b. But a good friend. I would put his $ towards the 92TSX or ______. What are your thoughts? I'm looking out for the best interest of both my friend and I. Thanks.

What sources are you planning to use with your new receiver?

thanks!

all inputs and outputs are fine.
I'm always trying to have the latest and greatest. so 1.3 is nice. and I may not have an easy sell for my 82 like this. plus a friend will be able to benefit from my warranty etc.

http://forums.audiworld.com/htelect/msgs/14977.phtml</a

Particularly if there's nothing about the 82TSX performance of the you aren't happy with.
You'll gain some useful new features and improved processors. There probably won't be any sonic differences to get used once it's properly warmed-up (allow a week or so).

I'm also keen to suggest you have your sub/LCD TV switch positions with your left speaker. Speakers perform better when not up against a side wall. You might screw-up the sound a little for the poor bastage sitting on that side of the room, but if they didn't pay for the gear, who cares? : )

I think my sub was in the corner originally. I forget why I switched them, I'll prolly do that when I upgrade the receiver and/or get a screen.

looking at that wall, with the odd door near the ceiling above the sub, think I can fit a 92? the tv is a 50" plasma that runs large b/c of ambient lighting.

thanks again!

And you can see what it's doing. You also have easy access should you want to change anything front or back.
Adding four squash/racquetball halves under each foot might help quash micro-vibrations for both the receiver and HD-DVD player.
It's a bit of a tweaker's tweak, but it's almost free and can make a difference to overall performance.

Into the next room!
Just seems a little small in there for a screen that size. But, it's all about personal preference.
I'm probably not the best person to ask about screen size - I sit 16' from a 52" and feel it's plenty big enough.
