Highest quality source for foreseeable future will be 1080i from a DirecTV box. Maybe a HTPC or 1080p DVD player in the far future.

Probably will never have external speakers attached.

The room is bright so LCD seems like a must. I have a 52" Sharp Aquos LC-52D64U and I like the "wide viewing angle", if it really is wide. I don't know much about TVs.

I've been pondering a Sony KDL-40V3000, KDL-40W3000 or maybe a Sharp Aquos 42" LC-42D64U (39 1/2")...if the Friends and Family connection comes thru.

39 1/2" wide(Sharp 42" Aquos)is absolute max..and that will partially cover some door frames.
