Did you see the stats on BR vs HD sales since the Warner announcement? HD DVD is just about dead.

I don't disagree the HD-DVD's days are numbered. But I already have a ton of titles and the players are dirt cheap right now. I needed a new DVD player this weekend and I went ahead and spent $150 for a new A30 (with 9 more free movies - 4 on the spot and 5 by mail).

In my mind there is virtually no reason to by an upconverting SD DVD player with the HD DVD players at the prices they are.

I want an XA2 for the Reon upconverting.

BTW - I am format neutral with a PS3 (which is pretty much exclusively for BD). But I just don't see any reason to spend $300+ on a BD player right now. They players (save for the PS3) all suck.

The average has been 84:16 in favor of Bluray. 85:15 one week, 83:17 the other.

Player sales were released for one week and lopsided, but I don't believe Toshiba had slashed their prices yet.

Because if Toshiba is really giving away 9 free movies with each player and that is accounted for in those ratios, then the picture is even worse for HD DVD.

Those are the numbers taken from Home Media Magazine, which releases the NPD numbers every week.

Isn't Bluray still giving out some free movies, as well? That would even out the effect somewhat.

Obsolete high performance gear is often a good investment. Have a look on ebay for reel to reel machines or Betamax recorders. I've seen 15 year old CD players go for more than a grand.

I still have a portable MD player. Bought it for about $60 for flights at a time when iPods were $400.

'MiniDisc' for those of you wondering.

It has a really beautiful rust metal finish like a Zippo lighter.

I also remember at that time the news were covering a technology to write on multi-layer discs (DVDs).

At that time the only MD players were portable ones, and I had one from Sharp.

I think this was 97.. I was in HS

Come to think of it, I've been favoring Sharp for a long time now subconsciously.

I have a small console with this sweet md mixer from denon....

I just need to get off my ass and convert all my old family recordings to mp3 before they degrade into pure static. Then I can make money off these ancient beasts? Score!
