Why on earth would you want to prolong this stupid format war any longer unless you really want both formats to die? It's over, blu-ray won. Let hd-dvd die a quick, painless, and peaceful death already.

Is hd-dvd fanboism that hard to kick? or are you secretly favoring digital distribution over the internet/cable/satellite providers?

Such a thing does exist. Found it at high def digest. Not as many signatures, though. Maybe we should worry.<ul><li><a href="http://Let%20HD%20DVD%20die%20petition">http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_perl/signed.cgi?HDVDeath</a></li></ul>

differently. Just think if they would have started with the $99 players from the get go.

I love that all the HD DVD guys who insist that the Paramount switch was based on merits also insist that the BDA paid off Warner.

BD technical advantages:

Capacity? Check
Bandwidth? Check
Durability? Check

HD-DVD technical advantages:

HDi vs. BD-J: Check (currently)

Price is not a technical advantage

And hardness is measurable, and by all accounts it is much harder to scratch a BD disc than an HD DVD.

Look, the two most important things for a media device are the amount of storage capacity and the ability to read data. BD wins in both categories.

HD DVD currently had better interactive features, including special features and online. What am I missing?

They had to develop a special hardcoating because the data layer is so much closer to the surface. By all accounts, it works.

The first prototype discs actually had a cartridge.

You've never heard of this?<ul><li><a href="http://www.news.com/Try-scratching-this-DVD/2100-1041_3-5455621.html">CNET article</a></li></ul>

Note: the disk in question is one of the 200 GB prototype discs, but was treated with the same TDK product that is on all BDs.<ul><li><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/19/tdks-durabis-2-coating-protects-200gb-blu-ray-discs/">Engadet article</a></li></ul>
