I am paying way too much for comcast cable. Total bill including the taxes and fees is $106 per month for 2 hd-dvr boxes, hbos, and the silver pkg.

Verizon dug in April and it's finally ready. I have verizon dsl ($25 per month) and dial tone ($30 per month). With Verizon fios dsl/phone/cable with dvr-hd boxes and hbo... going ALL Verizon will save me $25-30 per month.

Is the HD quality the same or better with Fios? I looked at the channel lineup, looks like a few additions, but nothing crazy.

Have any of your neighbors switched yet? You could always ask to see theirs.

Their are posters around here talking about fios, but it still isn't available in my area. Why would the advertise for it and we can't get it???

Much much better - Comcast has limited broad band capability and can not add more HD channels with out major investment in equipment.

FIOS internet is much faster than Comcast.

And many people I know switched from Comcast to DTV saying they prefer the DTV picture quality. Looks like you can't go wrong with FIOS.

I'm thinking about moving house and am dreading FIOS not being available where I go next. Fortunately it's just TV, so no big deal I guess. Most of what I watch (soccer) is in SD.

We have Comcast and I have two friends with FIOS. All 3 of us have 50" plasmas, one of them even has almost the identical TV I do. This is what I've observed:

FIOS SD channels >>>>>>>>> Comcast SD channels
Comcast HD >> FIOS HD

We found that, especially when watching sporting events, that the backgrounds were not just out of focus, like they were supposed to be, but were actually grainy/noisy as compared to Comcast. It showed this way for us on CBS as well as FOX, didn't check any others. I think this has something to do with how each provider compresses the data for transmission.

That said, the difference wasn't terribly noticeable, and we're only talking about the background really. The subject of the picture was just fine.

Other advantages of FIOS is that the Guide is a million times better than Comcast, and their DVR box is a million times better than the hardware that Comcast uses. All that combined with the more competitive pricing, and it seems like a pretty good deal.

they really tried to keep me. they are cutting my bill in half for a year. I have an appt for fios in a few weeks, i'll have to make a decision.

another note about the phone with verizon, is that it'll be unlimited calling in US and canada.

also I'd get a two hundred gift card for bby. OR a nineteen inch lcd flat panel hd tv. which I don't need.

that's my one gripe over switching from cable to direcTV. Lots of bad weather comes through here in Chicago and just my luck that my DirecTV reception seems to get hosed at the worse possible times (good game or movie on).

comcast cable has gone out 4 times.
dsl internet (verizon) never!

And our DSL cables are underground.

52 story high-rise with multiple dishes on the roof. I don't think my condo building can get any better placement than that. Even then, the building's service still gets regularly hosed every time a storm passes.
