I bought my Sony new and have used it minimally over the years. Now it is setup as a second unit, but as of yesterday the left speaker inputs don't seem to work. I tried both A and B left inputs with nothing. Now I just plugged the left speaker into the Right B input to get stereo. Any ideas?
Also if I replace this unit, my main unit is a Yamaha RXV2500. Buy something to replace the 2500 and move that to the second setup or buy a budget setup to replace the Sony.

Receiver repair is a bitch these days as hardly anyone wants to handle it (no money to made repairing them any more).
You could send it to Sony, but it may not be economically viable to repair it (or they simply may not have the parts).
Even though you have sound right now, it isn't actually stereo. It's no even mono. What you have is two speakers outputting the right channel information only, both at the same time.
If you were listening to Iron Maiden you'd be lucky to hear what Dave Murrey was playing at all.
The RXV2500 is a well-featured receiver on the whole, but in the three years since it's introduction, big changes have been made to the receiver feature list in it's price range. better preocessors, HDMI compatibility, iPod interface, TrueHD, DTS-HD etc. So you might want to consider moving the Yamaha to where your 555ES is currently residing and upgrade to a new all-singing model.
What speakers are you using? It might give me an idea which receivers to recommend.

line is only the HTR lineup. If one of these would be a good option, that is the direction I would go.

studio 100's are a tad on the bright side, so i'd want an amp to tone them down a bit.

Lots of cone speakers are designed to be bright-sounding as a means of creating that 'instant gratification' effect during a quick demo. A Yamaha receiver won't do such speakers any favors, but a Pioneer Elite will do nicely. Marantz wouldn't be a bad idea either.
Just pick the model which has the right features for your requirements.
