View Full Version : HDMI question

Upgraded my Onkyo TX-SR800 to the Onkyo TX-SR805 this weekend to get HDMI capability. I'm running an Optoma HD70 projector for the video.

Here's my question:

When I connect my Philips DVP5982 DVD player directly to the projector via HDMI, I get picture, but when I run the DVD player through the TX-SR805 I get no video signal, but I get sound.

I've tried every setting I can find on the Onkyo and no luck. I'm wondering if there could be an HDMI issue. Could the Onkyo and the Optoma have some sort of conflict?

The cable between the two is 30ft long, but the DVD player - projector works fine across that length of HDMI cable. Could I need an HDMI booster for a 30ft run? Perhaps the Onkyo HDMI isn't as strong as the DVD player?

Thanks,

John

My Optoma HD31 has a auto-sensing input selector,

HD-XA2 won't work at all with it. Just a blue screen. It's been such a pain, that luckily my projector is only 720p so I went to all component and everything works FLAWLESSLY. If I had the 1080p projector with these issues, I'd be seriously pissed...

I wonder if it's something to do with signal strength.

you might need a booster<ul><li><a href="http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/hdmi-booster.html">Ram HDMI Booster</a></li></ul>

Perhaps better quality cables do make a difference?<ul><li><a href="http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/dvi-hdmi-connections.html">Or is it just a ploy ?</a></li></ul>

Bluejeanscable says their series-1 cables properly displays 1080p/60 signal up to 125' (with no amplifier). Obviously, it will depend on the equipment it's connected to, but I'm just saying 15 feet is NOTHING for HDMI. A ****ty HDMI cable will do 15 feet. Your link is on the website of a company selling a product designed to improve signal. Wouldn't it be in their best interest to say a cable as short as 15' would benefit from their device? It's a sales ploy.

I recommend to John that he temporarily move his receiver and DVD player close to his projector and try short HDMI cables and see if they work. If they work, retry the 30' cable and see what happens. If it doesn't work, try a cable from a different manufacturer. You might even be able to return it if it doesn't work.

Also, where is the 30' cable from? Maybe it is *that* cable and he should use a better one?<ul><li><a href="http://www.hdmi.org/learningcenter/faq.aspx">HDMI Spec info</a></li></ul>
