hooked up direcly. So then I figured I't try sending the signal to my receiver (Onkyo TX-SR700) via component and then to my projector. But my receiver is just old enough that it only supports 480p... ****! I just looked through the manual and it doesn't mention any resolutions, because I think this was made before there was something other than 480p.

So hopefully, there is another HDMI switch I can use that will work properly because it's much more difficult to create a macro on my remote when you have to cycle through the inputs on the projector (instead of selecting a specific port on an HDMI switch).

Just come out of your reciever with component into just the one input of your projector?
Not even sure why you bought an HD-DVD player when you don't have a high def projector.

Projector is the 720p/1080i Panny AX100U.

me if I bought a new receiver (because the 5-year old one works fine).

Anyway, just got off the phone with Onkyo and they said my receiver DOES support 720p/1080i so I'll have to play around with it more. Only 'problem' if it does work is that I didn't run component cables in the walls and it will be a PITA to do so... It's a really good thing no-one wanted to buy those component cables (that I had listed for sale on 3 websites) or else I wouldn't be able to test this stuff out!

Had it worked 100%, I would have kept it but the HD-XA2 doesn't work at all through it and even the OPPO 981 had a quick glitch every once in a while. And as long as I have the 720p/1080i projector, I don't need HDMI. Finally, with everything (sound and video) going through my receiver, switching sources is CAKE!

that is all...

:-)

I've got the HD-XA2 as well and it's great. Especially with a true 1080p television.
