Bought a DVD/VHS unit by them from Best Buy. Broke in two weeks. Exchanged for another one. Broke in a little over 3 months. Send for repairs, they are asking for a $69 diagnostic fee. Turns out their warranty for labor is 90 days on new products. In this day and age, it's absolutely ridiculous.

Forgive me for sounding unsympathetic, but when product is that cheap, corners have to be cut somewhere. And they are cut in performance, durability, quality control and warranty period (to name a few). The warranty information is always there to consider before buying at stores like Best Buy. They'll happily sell you an extended warranty at time of purchase if you don't like a 90 day guarantee.
The alternative is to buy two separate components (stand-alone VCRs are still out there), but if you're looking to save space this isn't of much use to you.

The reason I got it is that this DVD records from VCR. Don't ask; my father in law has some old movies on tapes that he cannot/does not want to buy on DVD. Anyway, 90 days is absolute BS for an electronics product this day and age. It never even crossed my mind, to be honest, to look at the warranty. Yes, I shouldn't assume anything, but don't you think that this is a crap policy on their part? I wonder if I can do something via the credit card it's on in terms of extended warranty.

The last one was the DVD door would not stay closed . I'm not sure what was wrong before - my father in law said he couldn't record properly. Anyway, I am thinking to just have them send it back to me. If I have to pay $69 just to have it diagnoses, I can only imagine what they'll charge me after finding "the problem."
