View Full Version : How many of you still have your tape deck? faust92 10-05-2007, 07:40 AM I haven't listen to a tape in a long time. Thinking to let it go, as well as the equalizer... ESN 10-05-2007, 08:23 AM Still looks pretty w/blue VU meters all lit up, so I leave it in my rack for show. Still have all my cassette tapes, too, but haven't listened to one in over ten years. meisterkleef 10-05-2007, 10:22 AM myfirstimport 10-05-2007, 11:32 AM quench_dsm 10-05-2007, 12:42 PM lol... minidisk... not one of my wisest purchases.. :) Rubberduckie 10-05-2007, 12:52 PM Both are in great shape and sound glorious. It's a shame I rarely use them. Don't have any plans to get rid of them because I love how beautifully engineered they are. With these you can put seriously high record levels on decent tape, negating the need for Dolby NR. faust92 10-05-2007, 01:04 PM Rubberduckie 10-05-2007, 01:12 PM Otherwise the recordings they make are supremely faithful to the original - which isn't necessarily a good thing 100% of the time, but good enough. I loved being able to tune the azimuth of the record head to suite that of the playback head on my then Apline AI Net cassette deck in the car several years ago. It sounded better than any CD player for the car because the DACs in the car players couldn't compete with what my Nakamichi was receiving it's feed from. Are you using an EQ, and for what recordings? Rubberduckie 10-05-2007, 01:13 PM faust92 10-05-2007, 01:37 PM and was of atrocious record quality, so EQ was essential, especially to lower the high frequencies to get all the hissing out. I still use it even for factory tapes - I think Bjork, for example puts way too much base on her records, and I like to hear voices distinctly - that's where the mid-range comes in. I definitely would've like to keep the EQ and hook it up to my Yamaha CD changer (ok, now you know I have everything Yamaha :-)), but I'm not sure if it's feasible or even possible. My system is 10 years old, it needs a little upgrade. I am pretty sure I am in for the RX-V1800. RKJ 10-05-2007, 04:26 PM RKA 10-06-2007, 08:30 PM Wasn't using it, and he was listening to very rare classical indian recordings only available on cassette. I can't remember when I touched a tape last. Better it gets used.... Although...it was *mint* when I gave it to him. It hurt to see it sitting on a shelf covered in dust, fingerprints and smears (of who knows what). |
