There has to be a point at which they remove jacks used for outdated technology. Anybody ponying up $$$$ for a receiver like this isn't likely to use composite, S Vid, and most of the analog inputs or loops (VCR/Tape). This beast has inputs for FOUR VCR's!!! Seriously...I threw mine out over a year ago, and haven't even pondering replacing it! And practically every digital based source component will feed a digital signal into this thing...kill the analog jacks. Well, maybe leave a couple that can bypass internal A-D and D-A conversions, but even that's arguable on a receiver (are you really doing critical listening with outboard DAC's with this switchboard??).
I realize the circuitry is cheap, and there is probably no addt'l penalty to sound or video quality by keeping these jacks, but that rear panel is just an ugly mess.

If you don't, what does it matter?
It's about marketing. The higher-end the receiver, the busier the rear.
the back of the rack and the wall or I'm squinting at the back panel because there is just enough slack in the cables to pull the component off the end of the shelf. The more plugs I have to navigate, the more I curse at the 90% of them that I'll never need.
you need to go shopping for new equipment. :-)
