Probably next week. There is an announcement by Sony coming in a day or two and a pic of a future Circuit City ad selling the PS3 for $499.
Still not worth it to me but I figured people would like to know.

Let's see, Xbox 360 elite (necessary for HDMI and larger HDD): $480
Wireless Network Adapter: $99
HD-DVD Add-On Drive: $199
Grand Total: $778.
Yeah, a real bargain.

Apparently Target is selling their PS3s for $499 right now and BB, CC, Amazon will follow right around July 15th.
So essentially the top guy at Sony is a lying piece of crap ('We have no plans to cut the price').

They compare costs and features to the competion and set their price.
For what it offers compared to the 360, the PS3 at $499 is a bargain.
Unless, of course, you have a vendetta against Sony, like 75% of AW.

virtually at the beginning, not just lately. Again, they've always been much pricier than their counterpart but prices will come down at some point of course.

Toshiba/MSFT just put out a press release showing with player sales favoring HD-DVD, leaving out the PS3, of course. However,, when they want to talk about attach rates favoring HD-DVD, suddenly they include the PS3 (which obviously lowers the attach rate for BD players since only 20% of so of PS3 owners use them to watch movies). Who cares? It's just PR. You have to look past what they're saying and figure out what the actual figures they're using mean.

that is as close to victory as you can get without being 100% if you count having content as the criteria.
