Any thoughts. I am not averse to plasma or LCD, but this is a gift for someone and I want to keep it around $1,500. Right now it is $1,650 with tax at Circuit City.
Any thoughts, recommendations or criticisms would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

I'd like to hear everyone's take on these and alternatives as well.

I went with the JVC form of LCoS (they call it HD-ILA). Attached is a link to JVC spinning why you should buy their stuff.
JVC has several TV's with nearly identical specs. I saw these four listed in increasing price order: HD56FA97, HD56FB97, HD56FN97, HD56FH97. I got the HD56FN97. All are 56" and 1080p. I think the first one could be had for about $1500 (although that might have been the 52" version).

JVC HD-ILA

I did a quick search on the forum- seems to get good reviews. Were you able to compare the picture to Sony?

I assumed that the Sony would be more expensive. I think that side-by-side, you are bound to see some sort of difference, although it will probably be insignificant. But once you get either one home, you'll love it.
I've started to notice differences in HD content that agrees with what my friends see. We watched 24 on Fox, and it's good. Then we watched the DVR recording of Heroes from NBC and it's much better. Same for football. NFC on Fox was good, AFC on CBS was better. And then the Discovery and NGC shows are even better.
I will say that the JVC has been good out of the box and I have not changed anything (yet) except to set it into "theater" mode which makes the screen less bright (warmer). (We just set this up on Sunday two days ago.)

I don't have a suitable antenna and as curious as I am about OTA quality, I haven't done anything about it yet.
