So to sum up my previous post my 51" RPTV had some burn in issues. Called in under warranty and they told me I'm getting a new TV.

So today I got the call that I either can get a "comperable" TV or $1000 store credit toward a new TV. I'm pretty sure the TV they are offering me as an exchage is the Hitachi 51F59. Doesn't make sense to get another old school RPTV, so I'll more than likely use the store credit to get something else.

Question is, do you think the $1000 is a fair price? The TV was $3000 retail and top of the line Hitachi at the time. I paid $2700 for TV, warranty, and delivery. That was 4 years ago though. Thoughts?

burn-in is rarely covered by any warranty, for starters. You're getting lucky there.

That said, you should expect to get something comparable to what you have covered by the warranty. That's not a $3,000 TV in today's technology.

Expecting $3,000 would be equivalent to expecting a free technology upgrade.

If I go total my 18 month old $30,000 car, the insurance company isn't going to buy me a brand new $30,000 car.

What's the model of the set you bought four years ago? Hitachi had some fine TVs out then.

Replacement cost for equivalent technology is about what he's getting.

Replacement cost doesn't get you today's technology.

You can add like 400 bucks and pick up a Samsong DLP and the quality will be far better.

have a home theater where the festivities will be taking place, but trying to figure out if I need to make a decision quick or just wait.
