More Pics in my Poster. Feedback is welcome. My Current Preamp is a B&K AVP4090 which can be seen in the first pic. Im thinking the preamp needs upgrading. The Panasonic DVD up top is used for DVD's with component out to a 32" Panasonic Tau CRT HDTV. The EAD sends a digital signal to the Chroma via custom made .9999% silver interconnects and the Chroma sends the L/R split to the B&K via the same interconnects.

You seem to know your gear... what do you think of this dvd player? I'm putting together a minimalist 2ch/home theater rig. I need a prog scan/upconverting dvd player to play movies and to play music feeding an undecided integrated amp pushing pol audio rt600i's. The dvd player will send signal to a 42" plasma. Basically, a new school video setup with old school audio. How's the audio out of the player is my question...

Thoughts?

denon dvd-1930CI

Stops the gear from over-heating. Also, having all the cables bunched together like that can minimise the gains had by using high quality cables.

Your system is capable of passing on considerably more information than your speakers can reveal. Nothing wrong with B&W as a brand, it's just that the 602s are in the entry level, where as much of the rest of your gear can be complimentary to a considerable upgarde in speakers.

Speaker wire looks great. Braiding speaker cable does a lot to keep out FRI. Something most speaker cable companies aren't so good at doing without charging an arm and a leg.
Braiding is labor intensive so manufacturers go for cheaper solutions. Well done for doing it yourself.

I was hoping to move to the 800 series monitor. Also thinking about building some using this tweeter..

and this woofer..

Both ScanSpeak. Drivers dont really get any better. Both are used by some of the best reviewed speakers available at any cost. Wilson, Krell Lat series, etc... Just need to come up with a cabinet design (easy for me) and a crossover (I have no idea).

PS....check the link for the speaker cable design.

Triple T

Like any audio component, if it doesn't measure right chance s are it won't sound right. That's not to say what the performance says on paper is all that matters - there's plenty of gear out there that measures well but but doesn't sound right. But what's key is getting something that initially sounds good and measures accordingly. Without the two, getting the product to gell with a reasonable range of amplifiers and sources can be a nightmare.
I know lots of people who have made their own speakers, but it's usually a mother/child thing - no matter how they turn out the adoration is there.

Anyway..Given you have a requirement for monitors I'm going to guess you have a room that isn't huge. Monitors can do some things - speed, detail and imaging - that asks a few questions of many floorstanders.
One of the finest-sounding speakers I've heard which should work well with your gear is ProAc's Response 1SC. Not cheap but they can be found on ebay for under a grand/pair. Also Acoustic Energy's AE1 is a gem. Jamo's Concert 8 are well worth seeking-out too. A bit larger than the other two, but closer in size than your 602s and more than capable of embarrasing many speakers costing twice as much. Second-hand speakers of this quality are worth buying because in most cases, audiophiles take good care of their gear.

if you have a good audio dealer near you though - that can be the best route to audio nirvana. They aren't so common these days sadly, but if you're near a big city..

-equalizing the output of the diff. drivers, which probably have different sensitivities
-maintaining/optimizing phase relationship of the drivers' outputs.
-correct crossover points *and* slope, which complement the individual drivers' frequency resp. curve.

and even once proper crossover design is selected (even via software program), there's undoubtedly some room for tweaking necessitated by cabinet-specific interaction. sometimes this requires test instrumentation to perfect, not just ears.

^^all of the above^^ is what competent speaker companies do all day long for a living!! as Rubberduckie suggests, it's tough to do a better job than the experienced speaker mfr's do; if you do manage to do it and for cheaper.....then huge props to you!
