I just purchased the 42" Westinghouse LCD Monitor for $1,499.00 through Crutchfield. It is a 1080p monitor and of course it will have a stand alone HD source from DirecTV. In my opinion...the best bang for your buck today. What do you think?

but you have something that will be good in rooms with lots of windows and of course the gee whiz factor of something that hangs on a wall.

Sony charge twice as much for their delicious 46" XBR LCD. It's a great TV but I wouldn't say it's twice as good for twice as much.
So long as you have good audio to complement your TV you'll have a fine HT experience when watching a movie.

I am working on the audio...I am just getting into the TV thing. The house is somewhat new (3 years old now) and I am finally at the point where I have some cash around to spend. The picture looks great in person but I am certainly not looking for the best known to man because I wouldn't know any better anyway.
