I bought one from radio shack but it crapped out on me,its causing horizontal noise in the signal

1GHZ is okay if you have a smaller analogue TV.
It doesn't have to be Monster necessarily, but they are often the most readily available. But try to ignore the cheap ones like the cable company and RS offer. You can lose up to 7db of your signal with a cheapo.

If bandwith (OTA HD) get a 2 Mhz, can be had at ratshack or GG's/CC.

If minimal loss, measure you lines for resistance and repair connections/ new RG cable, ect...or make sure the incomming signal is up to par (this includes too much gain).

Buffering and or amplifing can be really expensive if you need banwidth.

A very common problem is the layout of the coaxial system in you home. It needs to be in a "star" configuration, not branched from different taps. This means splitting the signal at ONE location as many times as needed.

Ah...I could go on and on with this, write back with more decription of you set up.
