I hooked up my new 50" Grand Wega using an SVideo cable to the DVD player. I was very disappointed. Upon further research, I discovered you need component cables to have true HD. Back to the store. Wow. Big difference. If anyone else is running anything less than component cables from their digital source to their HDTVs. You are really missing out. Maybe everyone else already knew this but I always thought SVideo cables were able to carry HD signals.

Does this mean I am off the hook? :)

But you do have the right method of connectivity with compnent cables of course.
S-Video shouldn't be that much worse however, unless your DVD player has a really lousy S-Video pre-out. $50 worth of S-Video cable should be a half-decent cable, so it probably isn't that causing the offence.

I'm more of a movie guy. The commercials alone could drive a man nutz. The resolution coming from those sources is higher than from a DVD?

Some movies look much better than DVD - some do not have that much difference. But I only have a 40" tube tv.
