Are there any difference in sound? Is it worth the extra bucks for the special cable? or the regular white and red cable is good?

TIA

You'll get stereo, ProLogic and whatever crappy DSP modes your receiver has.
And if you have a good ear, I'm sure you'll notice a difference. Hell, spend the $50 for a cable you'll never have to replace. What's the big deal? When I worked at the different stereo shops I've been at, it always blew my mind that people would spend all kinds of $$ on good equipment, then balk at a tiny percentage of the total amount for decent cables.

I agree about some of the interconnects, but when it comes to forking over big bucks on things like speaker cable, well, I'm sure you're aware of the raging debate over that one. :)

Side 1: buy expensive
Side 2: buy the proper gauge only; buy cheap from a home improvement store

Pick your side and place your bets, those fights get ugly!

and a third school:
3) I have an old lamp at home, I'll just rip out the wire and use that.
But if you bought an $8,000 pair of Nautilus 802 from me, you weren't leaving with a $30 spool of 12g speaker wire.

between your DVD player and receiver - unless you have a six channel output and are using that (doesn't sound like it).
At best you'll be getting Dolby pro Logic II, which is okay (in some of the better receivers), but not the way the movie was originally mixed.
Optical or Coaxial will give you the original surround mix mastered onto the disc. Both sound pretty much the same in all but the higher-quality, well-matched set-ups.

Much like Phil Collins' jacket - shame really, coz he's an ugly, fat bastard.

...the cable companies pay you big commissions.

:-D

For $8K speakers I'd at least buy 8-ga on a spool. Heh.

There is not much difference between digital cables and video cables. A cable that is good for video will also be good for a digital audio signal. You can get a decent 75ohm video cable for $20 or so. Maybe even less if you shop around.

Just make sure it has a solid core conductor.

If your equipment uses optical digital, it will at least get you Dolby Digital. I don't know anything about optical cables.

Here's a great website which sells cables & accessories. I just spent a couple hundred bucks on their site.
