View Full Version : Finally found a quiet (enough) fan for the racks...

Probably gonna get another soon-- just wanted to try this one first.

The amps run stupid-hot, Class A and all, and they haven't been getting enough air because every fan I tried was too loud-- even slowed down with a potentiometer (or whatever it's called).

I put a pair of these in my rack to keep my Classe` amps (and Tivo) cool.

These things are literally silent.<ul><li><a href="http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/9dbPapst.html">Super quiet fan</a></li></ul>

pondering getting a fan or two for my cabinet, and have seen folks on avsforums <a href="http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=411236&perpage=20&pagenumber=1">suggest</a> getting a 80mm/92mm/120 fan and hooking it up to a radio shack 12v DC converter (like <a href="http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=120-050">this</a> or <a href="http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog%5Fname=CTLG&product%5Fid=273-1667">this</a> by stripping the wires and then joining the two. Was wondering if there may be a more elegant solution.

And would two smaller fans be quieter than one bigger fan? Assume both have the same dbA rating.

;)

You must have found quieter cheapo's than I could. Believe me, I tried. I'm gonna order one of those tomorrow to check it out, thanks. I already have the whole thing set up for similar fans...

The equipment is just too close to the seating area for any noise.

...going to be enough.

I'm just cooling 2 Classe` and one Adcom 3-ch amp (the biggest heat producers). The other 8 items don't put out that much heat.

...look at car upgrades for example. Most of those discussed here offer only aesthetic benefits, the vast majority of which can't be seen from the driver's seat.
The buyer sees the value. Those who don't, simply do not understand.

You could have an install shop make that for you for less than $300 each.

I've created an atmosphere where I'm a friend first, boss second. Probably entertainer third.
