(Heavy rain) What's going on? I have a clear line to the sky. I wonder if the dish wasn't bolted down securely?? I watched the signal strength while it was raining and it dipped down into the 50's. Anyone else have this problem? So far the service has been great but if this continues I'm going back to Comunistcast.

Mind you, this is California rain.

but with that said, they do provide all the important channels so I'm not complaining. I actually like not having all those "Junk" channels fill the channel guide screen when I'm browsing. The video quality is superb, when it's not raining. ;)

I've had Directv since 96 here in CO. I have lost my signal only about five or six times during that period - and only during severe weather - probably the longest time was five minutes. My friends with Comcast have lost Tv more times and for longer.
Here is a link to bigger dishes - I do not know if they will work with Voom but if you do a search for Voom products in Alaska - they will have a larger dish.

Link

I am not sure if it is because they need a bigger dish or the logistics of getting costomer support for that state.

Or at least that is what a local installer that used to work for them said. He now works for comcast and says comcast is crap job too. He's a private contractor that does comcast installs and gets paid per install.
Of course he's low man on the totem pole so i don't know if he knows what he's talking about. But if he does know what he's talking about I wouldn't expect service to get any better.
