I had read some time ago about one forum member doing this at Tweeters and was wondering what the satisfaction with it was?

In my experience the problem is cops in unmarked cars who follow from the rear & zap me. The escort has worked but if I had not been aware of the slime on my tail I would have been nailed. I guess I assume that instant-on radar is the standard in every state

Most enforcement is for aggressive driving which includes some of the following behaviors:

* Following too close
* Passing off the travel portion of highway
* Lane change violations
* Speeding beyond the traffic flow
* Merging into traffic from on-ramp through safety area
* Failure to yield at ramps or intersections
* Railroad crossing violations
* Displaying or using a weapon

Speeding beyond the flow of traffic is easy to detect visually even from a distance.

It is easy to get a false sense of immunity from detection with a system like this but it is no guarantee that you will be free from enforcement. Where I live, the unmarked cars follow a certain archetype which makes it slightly easier to detect their presence. Also, our Highway Patrol has an Aviation Section which is very effective and typically undetected until it is too late.

Many of us have a heavy foot and our need for speed can be a curse. We equip ourselves with these systems to reduce the number of times we are singled out. However, these systems are not meant to enable aggressive driving that endangers others.

I appreciate the role of law enforcement but I would not characterize them as slime.

Dear Ringmeister, There is a 17 mile stretch outside of Anchorage where cops cruise in black Crown Victorias & I can tell you that they have little interest in anything other than the fast revenue accrued by apprehending speeders like you & me. It's always the same 3 cops in the same 3 cars & it's an area that has very very few accidents. They sit in the median & wait. So, you're right, they are not reprehensible by themseves & I should be beyond picking on endomorphic cops but I really don't feel like a bad citizen when I step on the accelerator & the road seems so clear. . .

I understand the situation and have experienced a similar scenario many times. There are many places where ticket revenue seems to be more of a concern than safety. Perhaps the physical archetype of the cops you mentioned is due to a predilection for glazed ring torus shaped pastries?
