My brother called me early today and told me he got a flat and was jacking up his A6 4.2 when the jack broke and the car crashed down on the pavement. dug into the control arm bolt and resting on the rotor. I call audi they instruct me to take the jack to the dealer to diagnose the problem, I was like diagnose what, the jack broke( the plastic separated from the aluminum and it bent).


Anyways I pick him up, we ran home about 10 minutes away get my aluminum floor jack and take care of the flat.

He goes to the dealer and they quote him $176.00 for a new jack and none of it is covered under any warranty.

I need some advice on how to proceed, hopefully some attorneys can chime in.

There is NO question in my mind that a jack supplied with this car would be something that you could reasonably rely on. Audi might claim that there was something defective about YOUR jack. You must prove that there is something INHERENTLY WRONG with every jack supplied on this type of car.

The jack is included as standard safety equipment. MAG and AoA should view this as a safety issue and respond appropriately. It would be bad press if someone were injured due to a jack failure while trying to perform emergency roadside service. Perhaps if your brother would clarify his position in this context, he may get more traction with MAG and AoA even though the jack is apparently not covered under the warranty.

Just curious as to how many times the jack has been used before it failed?
