I forgot to replace the cap last night & got the replace fuel cap message .I went back to the station & replaced the cap but the message is still there. Will it go away or do I have to make a visit to the dealer? The total trip was about 2 miles.

How long does it take for the message to go away?

It won't work if you you turn the car on and off. Drive as you usually would and the light will disappear in a day or two ...
