I had Sirius installed at the dealer and have been real unhappy with the sound quality. Overall, most channels sound "compressed" and some are much worse than other (Disney for example is barely listenable). I don't know if it's how it should sound or if there's something wrong.

I sat in my friend's '05 A6 w XM and his sounds much better. You can't tell the difference when he switched between FM and XM, while in my car, FM sounds much better, clearer, and louder than Sirius. A

Anyone else with similar experiences? It is possible my Sirius tuner needs to be swapped out?

Thanks.

but in general, our stereos...suck! i'm a bose fan otherwise, and the wife's bose in B6 S4 is okay. dad's A8 is better. but i can't stand the audio system in the RS. seriously considering going aftermarket.

Agree. Harmon-Kardon in my E500 was superior.

I just picked up my 2006 A8 and the sound quality is reduced on certain channels over high-powered FM, especially some of the talk channels.

I have an aftermarket Sirius unit on my Touareg, with the same issue.

Sirius has worked well for me in my 2006 A8. The sound quality is actually quite good and I have been very happy with it. I have never listened to XM radio so I can not compare the two.

The compression seems to vary not just station to station but time to time as well. Maybe I'm getting more picky but it almost seems to me like the sound quality is getting worse. Perhaps it has something to do with when they changed the channel line up recently. Cramming more stations in may mean they had to cut the quality. 'Hits 1' has continually been good quality for me, but 'Shuffle' and '80s' has always sounded like a 64k MP3.

Strong local FM stations sound better to me than even the best Sirius station. Granted there is no surround information from FM, but the pure sound quality is superior. The advantages of Sirius (over FM) are:

1) no static
2) reception of the same stations across most of the US (great for road trips)
3) choice - lots of it
4) unedited content on many stations
