The lease on my 2003 S8 will expire next month so I have a year until the next S8 comes out.
After reviewing all my options, it appears that my best bet will be to get a 2 year lease on a 2005.5 S4 and then early terminate in late 2006. With the 2006 models coming out now, the deal I can get on a 2005.5 is so good that I should have little or no downside risk when I early terminate.
I wanted to get an A8 SWB but the numbers are too big in terms of downside risk when I terminate. The 2 year residual is 73 pct, so with an early termination I would have a high hurdle to clear. With the incentives on the S4, the two year residual is something like 62 pct, which should be beatable.
I test drove the S4 and found that, other than size, it actually drives similar to my S8. Should be a fun "loaner" until my next grown-up car.
