with the battery. They claimed power was getting low and that could cause a malfunction in the alarm system. They advised me to take the car in for a check up.

Took it to the dealer this morning and everything checked out just fine. The whole thing felt kind of strange. He confirmed that battery problems could indeed create alarm issues, but was also somewhat startled by the fact they rang me up about that.

I don't know how it works in the US, but in my country insurance companies obligate you to have the car put under constant surveillance. Apparently these people also inform you about potential malfunctions involving the alarm?

Then I got thinking perhaps someone was trying to obtain my security code by calling me with a bogus suggestion there was a problem. So today I phoned the alarm people myself. Luckily they confirmed their prior call and explained to me that sometimes satelites cause the battery issue my car was supposed to have. So it seems everything's ok again now.
