I have a 97 a41.8tqms. I went to the dealer last week and noticed that he plugged in the VAG 1551 daig tool underneath the dashboard. I thought that Audi moved it from the rear ashtray to under the dash in 98. Did they move it sooner? Is my car a 97.5?
One reason I'm asking is I the CD Player. I have the Delta radio, but since its a 97 I think I have to go with the alpine (which is $425 from Clair). Obviously if I could get away with the panasonic ( a lot less) I would be really happy.
If there is a 97.5 model, what else did Audi change?

Wishful thinking....I have a '97...the VAG hookup is under the dash on mine. I too have the Delta headunit and my CD changer was made by Alpine. The Panasonic changer will only work with the Concert headunit.

The VAG plug in location is under the dash for all US-spec A4s, I believe, or at least all 1.8Ts.
I don't think there is a 97.5 model, but if you recall, they did not build many of the 1997 models until later in the model year. I remember getting one of the first stick shifts (3/97 build).
Sharon

The 96 model has the connection in the rear ash tray, and 97 and newer have it under the dash. That isn't necessarily correct info. for all markets, however. It could be that in markets that didn't adopt OBD II, it stayed in the ash tray. In the U.S. it may have started under the dash with 96.
