I had AT&T wirelss, and they were bought by Cingular....had a digital one rate ($149.00 a month) and a Motorola V60 phone.

My phone is very hard to see in my phone cradle during the day and night...wanted a color screen....so I went and did the change over to Cingular. Ended up with a Motorola V551 phone and essentially the same plan (with 850 ROLLOVER minutes a month) for only $59.99. The rollover will build up and I will have a huge plan in a few months.

Wanted to keep my hands free phone system (which is not Bluetooth) with a Motorola phone, you just buy a new hang up cup and plug it in, so I bought one from ebay, should take minutes to change out the old one....

Here's what I got, I think mine will be black though...

So just unplug the old one, plug in the new one.

Here's the best part.....

The new phone (Motorola V551), is Bluetooth. I asked on the off topic forum if anybody knew of software so I could put all my phone contacts in my computer and download them to my computer, of course some guy gives me a URL with a Motorola program, it's very cool, you can control your phone from your PC.

I bought this USB PC Bluetooth connector:

And put all my numbers in on my PC (you can also import databases if you'd like) and then synched to the phone....

Even better yet, I have a Palm Tungsten T3, and now I can dial my phone from my Palm! I have over 2,000 contacts in it....just bring up the contact and choose "connect" and it dials my phone for me.....will be nice on the long drives across Iowa and the such!!!

Please forgive my ignorance, but I've been trying to understand what I can do to hook up a phone (any phone) to my wife's D3. If I am not interested in bluetooth (which sounds unlikely anyway) then I think my options are better. All I really want to do is be able to hook up a phone and be able to make calls (and answer calls) through the steering wheel controlls. Obviously this would mean being able to use the handsfree feature as well. I believe only bluetooth will enable me to review the contact list on the MMI screen correct?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

The only phone that will work with your steering wheel controls is the Factory Audi V60 phone, it's about $600 at the stealer. I have a mounting base for it if you want it.

You will not have any kind of MMI interface even with the V60.....no caller ID, no dialing from MMI, etc.

If you put a hands free phone system in your D3, you could do what I have done and install a Bluetooth hands free system, I also provide a mounting cradle and power supply to use the external factory antenna and to charge the phone.

OK. Then tell me what I would need to do to make a handsfree bluetooth possible. This will allow me to use the phone system through the MMI with all the bells and whistles? There are much nicer phones out there than the V60, especially at the price the Stealer (or even Clairparts).
