Was over at my brother's house last night for a party....his friend who is totally into cars was over....last time I saw him (June 03) I was talking to him about cars and how nice the new A8L was.....
He ended up cancelling an order for a MB that he had and bought a D3, black on black, full options, alancarta interior, etc. He said it was because of what I said.
I drove it around the block last night, such a cool car!
I was thinking it was a lot quieter than my car, but then I realized later I did the exhaust mod....but I think it is a quieter car, actually I know it is.
The dash is very similar to the D2, the D2 dash is all on one plane, but the D3 has two planes...one for the speedo/tach and the fuel and temp gauges are raised, don't know if I liked it as much.
I was playing with the MMI, very cool, wish I could get my Nav Plus to talk to the car systems!
My dash with the Nav Plus display and the large color monitor is very similar to the MMI, at least for the Navigation portion/radio portion.
One upgrade you guys need is the 00-03 center armrest, they are significantly better than the D3 armrests.
When I drove my car home later that night, I found that my car has significantly better viewing area out of the window (funny, when I got it, it was much worse than my 200q).
All in all, the D3 is one incredible car, but the "L" is not for me....too big.
I'm looking forward to owning a D3 SWB some day, but believe it or not, right now I would rather drive my car! I love the sound and how it handles plus all the special gadgets I put in it.
You guys have one heck of a car!!!! Now I can see how a D2 owner felt in 1997!
