Had my 5K service done today. Consisted of oil and filter change..and after I mentioned it also tire rotation. I didn't get the code printout but was assured there was nothing amiss on diagnostics and no S/W updates were available to do. Fine.

Took Silberhai home and shortly after went on an errand. When I parked and got out there was a whirring "grinding" noise for about 10-15 seconds that seemed to come from the rear of the stationary, switched-off car. Sounded much like the electromechanical parking brake setting but much longer sound duration. When I came back the car seemed to start and run OK. I cycled the parking brake and that seemed OK.

This is a brand new one for me. Has anybody else seen (heard) it?

Dad suffered what his cardiologist called an "event". I told the doctor that I was familiar with that term because I owned an Audi A8!! He will wear a monitor for awhile and we`ll just have to watch. BTW, I am picking up the Silver Bullet today with rather mixed results. Regarding the suspension and wiper concerns, the answer is.........................."Could not duplicate customer complaint"! What a surprise. Caught me completely offguard!! The Audi regional tech is coming here in 10 days to spend, according to my service dept., a "significant amount of time" with the car. I told my dealer that sounds fine because if he finds nothing wrong, AUDI will be spending a MORE significant time with the car! As an aside, they had promised to put me in an 04 A8L but it was dealer traded so I ended up with an Allroad. I tpi, the car can be driven with the pseudo paddle-shifters on the steering wheel. Neat! I just realized that Ive spent more time discussing this car than my dad but thats the way he would want it!!

Thanks(?) Jabberwock. Now would you consider reading my post and discovering that I was outside the car at the time. I hope Stanleysteamer is correct but I sure can't find any documentation of this phenom so thought I would ask if anybody else had seem it. has nada to do with normal park brake ops or cheese or cheeze or cheez.

fun. I thought the AR was quite a car actually; it just wasn't me and only lasted 10 days.

But the parking brake IS running a self test. It's more audible when you're outside the vehicle, but you'll hear it inside the car, too. Just ask Greenie. The test moves the swashplate in and out a few times to check the motor potentiometer. It happens every 1000km (620 miles) or so. Just a guess.

Must be the park brake test cycle from p. 147. First time I had heard it and it is a bit startling...Nice Charisma bonus though.
