If you have a Bluetooth phone, this unit will recognize it as soon as you get into the car, even if the phone is in your pocket or briefcase. You can dial using voice dialing, see your contact list, and see incoming caller ID, phone signal strength, etc.
With a car as sophisticated as our D3, you'd think that Audi would have figured this out.
I plan to get one of these units (Parrot 3100) and a Motorola v600 phone. I'll keep you posted.

http://www.driveblue.com</a

but it didn't have the screen, just three or four buttons to answer, hang up and give the voice commands. Very cool indeed.
All you would need is to hook it up to the radio so you can mute the radio when a call comes in, I'm sure it would be easy.
Where does the hands free phone speaker come out? Does it come out of the stereo or a dedicated speaker? If dedicated, you could just hook it up to that speaker.
Forget Audi and get ahead of the curve!
The only bad thing about it is that you can't charge your phone with it and there is no external antenna.

I want a headset (and in car integration would be even better), but alas the phone is not. I assume they'll look at it next generation though (both RIM and Audi... and I'm not insuating they'd work together just that each might pursue that because they SHOULD).

Here are a few advantages to the LED readout. (Remember that if Audi had done the MMI for US models correctly, this same info would be on your MMI screen whenever you used your phone.)
1) Ability to I.D. any incoming calls.
2) Verification of numbers entered to the phone when using hands-free voice dialing.
3) Ability to assess signal strength, and even if your phone is working. Any info that appears on your phone screen would be on that LCD Screen. (Remember, you can leave your phone in your briefcase with this thing.)
