View Full Version : Hey ZRH, did you ever get your car levelled? Plano-4.2 04-20-2004, 03:30 PM ZRH 04-21-2004, 07:09 AM No, but I finally got a plausible story. Was at the dealer on another matter and most of the "consultants" were away so I could talk to the senior tech who had explored the problem. His take is that the sensor system raises the left side of the car when I get out so that when I return my (considerable) weight to the driver's side the car sits level. Sounded far-fetched but I tried it and after I returned to the car it was dead level, despite the 15mm list to starboard when empty. Anyhow, I WANT to believe this story...Audi is Sphinx-like on this...and you are the only forum member who is curious enough to actually do some measuring. I have a 1000+ mi road trip coming up followed by 5000 mi service and I'll be pushing hard to rule out or confirm uneven tire wear. Thanks for your interest. I'll keep posting as this develops. ZRH7178 Plano-4.2 04-21-2004, 07:25 AM Interesting, but my car should show the a list as I measured it w/o me in it, and it didn't. Hmmm, I wonder if the new vag-com version that Uwe at Rosstech was working on could be used to recal the corners. He had mentioned about lowering the car using the software, I wonder if one offset is used to lower the car or could individual values be used for each corner so that the car could be 'adjusted'. I'm planning on having my 5K service done early next month and will probably also do a fairly long road trip after that. D3AeighT 04-21-2004, 07:37 AM I've noticed, when I'm set on "automatic" that if I pull up to an un-level "situation" the car adjusts itself to level it out. Plano-4.2 04-21-2004, 07:56 AM I've occasionally seen that when stopped at a light, so far only in automatic mode. What we've been measuring is how 'level' the car sits on a level surface. We measure from the ground to the top of the wheel arch on each corner. ZRH noticed that his car wasn't sitting level, initially with the car off. I tried the same thing, measuring w/ the car running and in the different suspension settings, and found that my car was also 'listing'. I took my car in for the LX recall (the part wasn't replaced). Afterwards, my car was level side to side, but had a bit of a squat. ZRH 04-21-2004, 08:04 AM The list happens in all modes whether the engine is running or not. I have only confirmed that the car levels out again when the driver returns with the car in Automatic mode. ZRH7178 ZRH 04-21-2004, 08:15 AM Plano, I mentioned your experience to the tech I talked to and he didn't seem to know of a tweak like you had. 'Twould be interesting to have somebody measure your car now with you in it and see if you have a little list to port or if the sensors are compensating....as I thought they would til I saw the list. Re your earlier question: sometimes I hear a small hiss and see a little motion of the car upon getting out in the garage. Hard to detect the 1cm+/- visually in such a short time so I confirm it with a static measurement.
