Noticed a trend at the auto show: BMW has stopped providing full sized spares and instead use the spare donuts.

We used to be told by BMW representatives that the spares in the trunk floor were actually designed to be part of the crash zone and to maintain integrity around the fuel tank. It's too bad what cost savings is doing to the Bavarians these days.

But at least our Audi still provides full sized spares, though not sure how long that will last either.

At least my '99 M3 still has the full size spare in its rightful place...

The A6's though do not.

My S6 had a donut and my RS6 has an inflatable spare...

The 2000 A6 2.8 with some special luxury package had a donut spare tire with plain black steel wheel. Otherwise, the 2000 A6 2.8 sedan has a full size spare with matching alloy wheel. The A6 avant always has and still does have a donut spare tire with plain black steel wheel. The 2003 only RS6 sedan has a fix a flat kit like the E39 BMW M5 and E46 BMW M3.
